MemeFling Developer Tools & API Reference

List public templates, request caption suggestions and download a standalone local meme editor.

Browse public templates

GET /api/v1/assets?locale=en&templates=true returns public editable templates, image URLs, aliases, example captions and a nextCursor. Follow nextCursor with the same filters to fetch the next page. GET /api/v1/templates/{id}?locale=en returns the current template and normalised text areas.

Suggest captions

POST /api/v1/captions/suggest accepts prompt, locale, tone and useAI. Default useAI is false: results are matched curated examples, not AI-generated text. Tone can be friendly, playful or polite. The situation is not stored as history or included in URLs.

Session and limits

This is the same-origin web API, not a separately authenticated third-party SaaS API. Fetch /api/v1/session first and retain its cookie. For POST requests send its csrfToken as X-CSRF-Token and the configured site Origin. Caption suggestions are limited to 12 requests per session per minute. AI has additional daily and global caps. 429 responses include Retry-After.

A local editor you can reuse

Download the standalone HTML editor below. Its original code is MIT licensed, needs no account or backend, and handles your images on your device. The software licence covers code; it does not include the website template images.

Optional AI assistance

Operators can configure the Gemini caption adapter. Users must explicitly select AI assistance; only their submitted situation, language, tone and template descriptions are sent to that service. No local photo is sent. Without configuration, curated suggestions remain available.
